jack Davison
jack Davison is a fast upcoming
photographer based in London, specializing in portraits and people he
revolutionizes his field. born is Essex jack first picked up the camera when he
was fifteen and really began to gather inspiration a year after that, learning
techniques and processes from fellow photographers on flickr with the internet
opening many doors for inspiration. however despite this Davison never took any
form of art as a form of optional education, in-stead choosing English
literature, this lack of formal education as he claims has freed him from any
forms of boundaries and rules that may hinder his creative process, setting him
apart from his peers that have been taught how to do things in a particular
way.
however jack davison considers himself a
documentary photographer rather than an artist as all his photos are taken in
the moment, without the use of staging for his subjects, he simply stops
interesting individuals in the street or whatever location his journey takes
him, valuing the unplanned moment over an elaborate setup, he use of monochrome
photography also reflects this documentary nature of his work, as it simply
shows the world how it is, without glamourizing it or removing most would
consider unpleasant .
to expand his work jack decided to take
a six month tour of the US to find a wider variety of individuals and settings,
as he states- “I’d
head out and wander through the streets looking for people to speak to and
photograph. I’m reliant on moments of spontaneity with my subjects.”. this
allowed him to continue developing his work and gain greater status as an
artist.
I have
chosen this artist because I have great admiration for him, to have such
confidence in an unfamiliar field and take his own path rather that follow one
that has already been laid out, in addition to this he focuses on the people in
the moment. I believe this choice in artist will challenge me to seek a
different approach in photography that in art, as often my work is very
delicate and staged unlike his which is raw and striking, in addition to aid me
in gaining confidence in including more people within my work.
the
works that will be used most for inspiration will features the pieces that he
has distorted using effects such as camera shaking or digital and physical
after editing such as incorporating mirrors or blur effects.
Rashed haq
the work of Rashed has a very deep meaning and purpose in
which he outlines the effects of technology and science on our lives, how
despite improving them greatly allowing us to speak across the world and live
around four times as long as we would without them it can also have equivalent
repercussions, increasing the complexity of our lives to such extreme points
that in some cases people are unable to continue. the number of mental health
issues has increased dramatically as science and technology advances, with
youngsters being exposed to unrealistic representations of what they should be
to the elderly being left alone in the dust as the generations run on without
them. it is not only individuals that this impacts, entire cultures are
drifting further and further apart on an economic level as technology becomes
available for those who can afford them. the more emotional representations
relate to negative ones such as conflict, fear and confusion, using a mixture
of the same face to show these emotions in a self-destructive discord.
Rashed unmasked
I will be using this portion of Rashed’s work as inspiration
as the style of art is the closest to what I have used in the past, however the
techniques used are completely different as I take serval photos of different
people and combine them using photoshop to create a single face with many
features out of place and proportion, while rashed using the same subjects and
takes several photos from single session in which the exposure of the camera is
about 20 minutes. to reflect on this I hope to try taking photos with high
exposure and editing them later to reduce the work load later when combining
other aspects.
Born in Paris 1960, Lepage began his photography career in
the 1980 and really began flourishing as an artist in 1983 when he made his
first exhibition featuring photographs of the French actress Isabelle Adjani,
after that he continued to develop his work photographing models and others of
high profile, his work catching the eyes of many because of the unusual appearances
the final results tend to have, involving altering the colours and perspectives
without taking away any of the beauty of the subjects.
Unlike the other artists I have chosen, lepage uses much brighter colours
and a more set profile of subjects favouring models surrounded by white and
brightly coloured subjects, this allows the dark overlays to have so much more
of a presence and the smooth and jagged patters to harmonise of contrast with
the features of the models. Personally this seems to represent a constant
desire to improve physical beauty while still remaining an individual providing
a balance of natural and cosmetic beauty.
The particular pieces that will be focused on for
inspiration are the works that incorporate line and form into the photos, as in
my previous works focused a lot on line and form overlaying other works,
however the addition of photography is not a medium I have worked on before.
Structured in an abstract way- Sometimes outlines biological
structures such as bones
Uses pen over photos to distort the image
Also fragments images
Uses bright lighting- massive contrast compared to the other
images
Seems almost dystopian
